Confection Selection

Confection Selection Service Opportunity

Confection Selection is a fund raising event for the Tri-City Pregnancy Center sponsored by Grace URC. We sell home-baked goodies by the pound and all the proceeds go to the Pregnancy Center. This year we are attempting to boost both amount of goodies and the traffic through the event (which will be held in Grace’s sanctuary) as a build-up for next year, when we plan to host it at the Kennewick Grange on Union by the library.

There are several ways you can help with this event:
Bake goodies: fudge, frosted sugar cookies, peanut butter balls, brownies, peanut brittle, gingersnaps, snickerdoodles…. any cookie or holiday treat you enjoy making! Time spent baking these treats counts as service hours for AHG. You can drop off your baked goods here at the church in the kitchen the week prior to the event, to Mystie (off Road 68 in Pasco) on Thursday or Friday, or here at the church Saturday morning BEFORE 8am. Please cut any bar cookies before dropping them off and label your goodies with their name and if they contain any nuts.

AHG girls grades 6 and up may help out at the event as greeters and behind tables, helping customers fill their clamshells. We could use help between 8am and 2pm, or any length of time in between. Please bring a lunch or lunch money if you’ll be working over lunch time.

If you attend a church other than Grace, and would be willing to put an invitation announcement about Confection Selection in your church’s bulletin or a flyer for the event in your church, please let Mystie know. I have the text for the announcement and flyers, also.

Mystie can be reached by typing her first name (spelled correctly!) @starvale.net

Kookies for Kairos Details.

While most of us are not actively involved in prison ministry, we can all minister to the residents of Purdy Correction Center for Women in a special way.Bake
Cookies for Kairos!

What is Kairos?
Kairos Ministries is a Christian organization that shares the gospel of Jesus Christ with those in prison.

Why do they need cookies?
March 16-19, Kairos is sponsoring a Christian retreat weekend at Purdys Correction Center for Women in Gig Harbor WA. . The cookies are used as refreshments during the weekend program. In addition, a bag of cookies is given to every person at the prison, including the guards and the warden.

Why should our AHG troop and GURC participate?
AHG (nationally ) has been participating in the “Cookies for Kairos” service project for nine of its ten and a half years of existence; last year our girls provided over 700 dozen cookies to this ministry. This is an opportunity to share God’s love with people who really need to hear about the unconditional love and forgiveness of Jesus. The fact that people care enough to bake these cookies is a powerful message for the participants.
Because the cookies represent God’s love, we ask that burned or broken cookies not be sent in.

How can our AHG troop/GURC help?
We ask each girl in participating troops make 2 dozen cookies according to the following guidelines:
- Cookies can be chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal (no raisins!!), sugar, M&M, Rice Krispie treats, or snicker doodles. Brownies can be sent in also. Slice and bake or mixes are okay. Store-bought are not!
- Each cookie should be approximately 2 inches in diameter
- ABSOLUTELY no raisins, icing or powdered sugar (prison’s restrictions!)
- Cookies should be placed in clear gallon-sized Ziploc bags of 2 dozen per bag. Mark the bag “2 doz.” for ease of counting. Please do not put cookies on paper plates. Do not decorate the bags.

Where and when do we bring the Cookie?
Please bring the cookies to the Grace Church kitchen between March 1st and 9th. Someone will be driving these cookies to Gig Harbor before March 16th. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any late cookies.

Please record the time your daughter bakes on the service hour record sheet when you turn in the cookies.

If you have questions please call Tonya Davis at 734-9392
